Katharina D. Martin read Social Science, Aesthetics and Media Art in Germany and the Netherlands. Her graduation project involved a case study of a schizophrenic patient, including an analysis of the archetypical semiotics of his artistic works.

Based in Rotterdam she is currently studying towards a PhD in the Department of Aesthetics and Art Sciences at the Academy of Fine Arts, Münster. Her research, supervised by Prof. Dr. Claudia Blümle and Prof. Dr. Marc Rölli, gravitates around the concept of milieu as methodological instrument for analyses of digital technology. Of particular interest is the correlation between code and its aesthetical form as digital image.

Martin strives for a new kind of trans-disciplinary philosophy and media theory. Her general fields of interest are Media Theory, Philosophy of Technic, Image Theory, Aesthetics, New Materialism and Continental Philosophy.
